School libraries have changed drastically in the last few years, and so have traditional librarians. The role has transitioned from a book manager to vital member of the education leadership team. The 1998 California Public School Library Act created a demand for qualified library media teachers able to contribute to the education environment by supporting the schools' curricula, developing literacy programs, and assisting in technology management. APU's Library Media Teacher (LMT) Credential Program prepares library media teachers as expert, specialized educational leaders in the areas of technology, literacy, and diversity. Throughout the program, students are expected to be proficient in the use of a laptop and online instruction, as well as current updates to library media teacher technology.
